Album: Jefferson Gardens Neighbors
Jefferson Gardens, bounded by Ogden Ave, Mills Street, The Lane, and the East side of County Line Road was in many ways the equivalent of today’s gated or specialized communities. It was clearly delimitated and the residents knew and participated with each other socially. Most of the residents were young parents struggling a little financially. As a result they partied with each other at their homes either in the basements or garages. Most of the time the brought their own beverages, and maybe a snack. Music was provided by 45 RPM records. The cost to the host was practically zero. As you can see they had a good time and many of their parties were costume. They also on occasion had picnics with the children. In the beginning there was less than a dozen families but the group increased as the neighborhood grew
